:0461: the charger is very useful, if you have a bike and you are not using it all the time

The regulator on my VFR800 was stuffed and the battery wasn't charging, then one hot day in traffic 450 miles from home everything went dead (the radiator fan sucked the last of the power). Luckily I was only 50 miles from my brothers house and he came to my rescue.

I fetched Thunderchild home yesterday with a nice new shiny battery  fitted. The only thing they could find that was wrong was that the battery was as flat as a pancake, but the alternator is working perfectly well. So the parking lights scenario seems the likely one. Duh! To try and avoid it happening again I'm trying putting the parks on then switching them off - then I know they're off! But if anyone has any bright ideas on avoiding the bright unwanted lights please shout...

If the battery had simply been flattened by leaving the lights on, why did they fit a new battery ? They could have simply re-charged the original. :084:

Was the battery just flat or was it not taking the charge?

Good point, I didn't actually ask, but I think I got a new battery cos I've only had the bike three weeks, and my friend happens to be the manager... :002:

To be honest, after experiences with car batteries that went totally flat, I'd rather not risk recharging. I find that's fine for batteries that just need a bit of cheering up, but ones that have pancaked never seem the same again.
