    Air Bag Hi-Vis Vest

I've come a cross this a Hi-Vis vest fitted with an airbag. I was a bit sceptical but having watched this review I think it's a good idea. Keeping in mind that safety is paramount I don't think it's a bad idea at all. There is obviously the debate about wheter it will actually prevent injury etc etc, but I believe it's better to have at least something extra as a possibility of protection as apposed to having nothing. I know mate it's like people are more bothered about looking 'cool' than being safe! Well unless you keep safe sooner or later you'll end up looking not so cool or worse :024:

I wear hi-viz in town, but not on open roads  :015:

Basically because I feel the risk of some dozy driver not seeing me is higher in heavy traffic, than out of town, where visibility should be better, even if speeds are higher.

Logically speaking yes but not always does logic prevail mate. My opinion is that it's best to wear one all the time. Anyway, what did you think of this specific one with the airbag?

    tbh - can't watch videos - I'm at work  :164:

In principle, if it helps, can't be a bad thing.

Tho I don't think I'd buy one. I always wear full gear; jacket, jeans, boots, gloves, but draw the line there. for eg I've never had a back protector.

There are numerous pieces of safety kit I could buy, but if I was that worried about having an accident, I'd probably catch the bus.  :002:

As the previous post, each to their own  :002:

Always wear my leather jacket with integrated back armour.
Sometimes I just wear ordinary jeans though.
I'm looking for budget armoured jeans.

I don't like High Vis, but wear it on all but the shortest journeys, as Ireland can be quite dull and grey in wet weather, and many car drivers seem to be totally asleep at the wheel.

I'm considering getting an orange or yellow helmet for long winter commutes.

As regards an airbag, it can only help, but I'm not ready to climb to the next level of Health & Safety obsessiveness yet.

    John.

    Hi Journeyman

I've visited Ireland a few times (holidays and road race meets) tbh I thought the Irish far more bike aware than here at home, moving over to let you overtake etc. :028:

The one exception being Dublin's rush hour, which is as mad as I've seen :001:

Ha ha Rowell, you haven't met Mobile Phone Mommy in her 4X4 with her 3 fat school kids in the back, on the 1 kilometre journey to school, because its to wet to let the fat fu*k*rs get some exercise by walking.

She'll drive over you because she believes cyclists & bikers are people who are too poor to own a car and should be treated like the peasants they are.

    'Bitter; Who Me ?'

On a different note, I did some riding in Wales a few years ago, to the Dragon Rally. Lovely countryside & lovely people.

Anyway CgBlueman; sorry for the thread hijack and getting back to High Vis Vests....... :455:
