I don't know what you guys do but I occasionally wash my safety gear. For instance, at the end of Spring I washed my waterproof trousers and the particular gloves I'd been wearing up until then. Now I'm on holiday (I'm a school teacher) so I hand washed my jacket and leg armor. You would not believe how dirty the water was after. A mixture of sweat and pollution I think :005: Plus on a regular basis I clean the outside shell of my helmet and visor. I think it's time as well now to take out its lining and give it a hand wash.  :084: This may make me seem a little bit sad but having seen how much dirt actually came out just from the jacket :084: plus now the reflective strips on my jacket are much brighter and looking like new again. :062:

All textiles need cleaning and re-proofing. If the material is clogged with dirt, it loses it's waterproofing and it's ability to breathe in hot weather.

In town I wear a hi-viz over jacket, which I simply throw away and replace about every 18 months

:0461: and you do right to change your hi-viz regularly, otherwise it defeats the object and becomes more not so hi-viz :112:

This might explain why my bike trousers have started letting the rain in :005: as they're filthy! Job for the weekend then.

We have a pretty sort of storage bench in our small hall and I dump all my bike gear on that when I'm working. If I'm not working for a day or two then the helmet and gloves go in one of the baskets, the boots go in the downstairs loo, and the jacket and trousers get taken upstairs into my room. If the gear is  wet then it gets shoved into the airing cupboard to try and dry before the next day.

Looks very elegant, not. Himself not impressed, but it's better than it used to be - I used to keep horse tack in the hall!

Airing cupboard, eohippus, fortnight... Good thing Google knows what you’re talking about. I hang my jacket up & pile the rest on a bench below. I like to have it close to the door for speediness.

Sorry, Andy, I forget that this is an international forum!
Although I am surprised you don't have 'fortnight'.

I've heard of the word but had to look it up to figure out the duration is 2 weeks. Now that I learned a few things I can honestly say I acomplished something at work tonight.
