Endless chain

Most of the bikes now come with an endless chain (No split link) Once again we are told to take it back to the dealer to have a new chain fitted when needed.
Top quality aftermarket chains, with O rings, come with a split link and, IF PROPERLY FITTED, are just as good, in my opinion, as a dealer staked chain which, if not well done are more dangerous as I don't know which link has been joined.
What do you think?

and put a split link and replace the chain when ever you want

If you look at each link closely, you can usually tell which the rivetted, joining link is. I use it as a marker when I'm lubing, so that I know when I've been all the way round

tbh, I've never seen a split link in a modern, o-ring chain.
I wouldn't use one on  a bigger bike, but it might be ok on something like the Inazuma

I agree Rob but on a 250 I believe they are safe. The quality chains come with a split link that also takes O rings which come with it.
The chain splitter tool is't cheap, I did mine, very carefully with a small angle grinder.

A few days ago, my brother was reading his V-Strom manual (in Spanish) and whoever translated it, listed the chain as an 'eternal chain' instead of 'endless chain'.

Well... he was all cocky about how his chain would never ever deteriorate.

Well... he was all cocky about how his chain would never ever deteriorate.  oh dear not a happy man then   but have you ever ridden the v-strom? Whats it like! Is he happy with it? Just a thought for the long future I have...

It's an awesome bike, really easy to ride. It comes with a high torque engine that won't rev up too fast. Well thought for a bike that has to be under control in loose terrain. And this doesn't mean its slow or weak in the road. Let's say it's very well balanced.

However, it's not for me, since I am vertically challenged. It's easy to tamper with the rear suspension and the front yokes, but in order to lower her enough to make me feel safe, I'd had to reduce the ground clearance to about 9cm.  Too bad.
