True  You have to take the rough with the smooth,  Killarney is out of this world, I camped on the Beara Peninsula  one Christmas Eve, Tied my hammock onto my van and the cable car steel support... Nearly froze to death     It's Ireland's only cable car, the peninsula is well worth taking the time to visit.. Some great views from the Conner mountain pass,

I would advise you use the pass on the way to the area's you want to visit on the Beara, this way you will be on the inside lane,  I say this because I found some drivers take the bends too wide... Probably because they're looking at the landscape instead of the road.   You can come back on the lower road by the southern coast side... I feel like loading up my gear and hitting down there now just thinking about the place.

another thing to watch out for is wild Deer around the wood's Especially just as it gets dark... Had a near miss myself is why I mention this 

I was leaving the Beara and seen signs warning of deer... say's to myself "that must be for the tourist" within minutes of seeing the sign my headlights picked up 2 pairs of eyes looking at me in the middle of the road,
I thought they would have all been eaten by now
