Hi;
Took my 2013 Inazuma home in the van today. Bike not yet insured or licensed, but snuk out on the local backroads this afternoon – a lovely bike and really looking forward to my first local trips. It’s the first motorbike I’ve owned (feel I can trust myself now I'm over 50), although I used to ride a Suzuki 250 farm bike daily ......... 30yrs ago in NZ!
I’m in Nairnshire and, thanks to this forum, I was able to contact local member Lennairn, who kindly offered to teach me how to check/adjust the Inazuma’s tappets. Without that offer, I’d have bought an old Honda CBF250 instead as there’s no way I’d pay garage rates for having valve clearances checked every 3,000 mls on what will be a leisure bike. Seems like I'll find this forum as useful/ friendly as I have found the VW T4 Forum for my van.

A wee update. Here’s a picture of the bike after 6 weeks/700mls with me – just after giving it a service ...... and its first wash. It’s been great exploring local roads that I don't drive or cycle, as well as some jaunts further afield, and I’ve ended up insuring/ using the bike a bit for work as well as for leisure (but only use it if there’s a nice route and a good weather forecast!). And I'm picking up confidence on the open road with every trip. The bike’s now a few weeks shy of 2yrs old, and has 6.4k miles on the clock – and the valve clearances were still good when we checked them (true to his word, Lennairn took me through this in his garage).

There were loads of extras on the bike when I got it (rack & box, centre stand, slider bar, rim tape, de-stickered, radiator protector, immobiliser, indicator buzzer ..... and even a GPS tracker and USB charger!), so I’ve just added extenders to the mirrors and to the front mudguard (thanks to the forum for the info). But, to make it feel more like my own, I’ve also covered most of the “showy” silver plasticky bits on the bike with everyday matt black tape (side panels, top tank panel as well as tops of headlight and speedo), and cut some reflective tape for behind the indicators for a bit of fun/ for safety. The tank bag may look amateur but it’s functional – my bicycle’s rack bag, with an extra base unit that’s held onto the tank by bungies. We no longer need to display road tax disks in the UK – so I used the holder for a mild political statement (relates to last year’s unsuccessful Scottish independence referendum).

I think this m’bike will meet all my needs and be with me for many, many, years – providing I continue to keep it upright. I might end up eventually fitting a large screen like Tripes Rodeur’s (thanks for your thoughts, Philippe) though, as gusty winds can sometimes make for hard work.

So, keep on trying out new stuff with your Inazumas, folks, and I’ll keep on tagging along behind!

PS The Inazuma anoraks among you may have half-recognised the bike from the photo in my April post as I bought it from this forum’s Jonboy, who posted images of it last summer. The bike also appears elsewhere on the web as I did a wee story about my bike-buying dilemma for the Bikes and Travels blogsite as Ren from that site was very helpful, and requested it - http://www.bikesandtravels.com/biker.aspx?ride=755 . No regrets about getting the Inazuma – I love its solidness/ stability, and I think the extra weight does help in our gusty winds – if hard to push through our gravel!
