Does anyone know if the dash lights still come on with the kill switch is off? Just wondering for my own curiosity what circuits the kill switch interrupts.

Did it end up just being a dead battery HappyFrog?

I am in Canada... my bike is inaccessible for about 4 or 5 months.

If you hit the kill switch, before turning on the ignition :

The dash lights come on,
but  "CHEC" appears instead of the clock and the gear indicator doesn't register.

Ah good to know - she wired smart aka "idiot proof" to tell you left the bloody kill switch off.

Simple deduction would tell you my dear Watson... I mean Happy... that your problem lies in your battery, battery connection, wires or ignition switch. (Headlight & likely dash backlight would still work with fried or removed ECM.)

The battery can be tested with a voltmeter (should read 12V) or with a low wattage 12V light bulb (should glow bright) on the battery terminal. If results are bad charge the battery, if happens repeatedly suspect alternator (aka magneto or generator) otherwise proceed. Do the same test on the battery exposed wires or connector if results are bad remove, clean & tighten the battery terminal(s) & connector(s) otherwise proceed. TAKE TO DEALERSHIP (ignition switch is likely sealed and unserviceable, without access wires cannot be tested for continuity).

Haven't heard yet as bike has yet to be fetched.
I will scream loudly and vexatiously if it was the parking lights!!! On the other hand probably better it's that than something mechanical wrong.

I think that a small battery charger is a must if you own a bike, Lidle sell a battery checker for about £6 that checks state of charge and also the charging rate of the alternator.
A battery charger is about £10. Good value.
