    Changing transmission on 250 V-Strom

    Hi!
I have a V-Strom 250 in France, cousin of your's Inazuma, I really like this bike but I would like to reduce the engine speed of my 250, for information at 90km / h the engine runs at 7000 rpm, passing to a pinion of 15 or 16 teeth ratio instead of 14, original is 14 * 47.
Do you have any links, personally I cannot find a 15 or 16 tooth sprocket. JT Sprockets does not produce it for information.

    Who carried out this operation?

Thanks for your comments, it's a great bike!

That sounds like the same problem the Inazuma has.
There are loads of threads on here about overall gearing

I'd suggest the 15 tooth front, 16 might be a step too far

It's easy enough to change, tho the sprocket nut is damned tight. You'll need a big bar to undo it and a torque wrench to fit the new one  :002:

Thanks for your feedback, yes it's the same problem. Unlike yours which is in 14 * 46, the V-Strom is in 14 * 47, that's why I'm thinking of trying the 16 teeth anyway. The pinion is symmetrical without offset in steps of 520, do you have a reference?

I don't know if you know this:

You might be ok with the 16T in that case
I bought mine from Aliexpress - search "suzuki inazuma gw250 sprocket"
They certainly do 15T front sprockets with the inbuilt damper, like the original, not sure about 16T

If you have the patience to read it all, this is the thread where we first started talking about gearing change :
We were very much learning, all those years ago  :008:

    Hello,
Not having found a 16 tooth pinion, I set up a 41 tooth rear crown gear to have a 14 * 41 transmission instead of the original 14 * 47 one.
I will have to shorten the chain but the bike is much more pleasant, we turn 1000 rpm less for the same speed, and we do not have to change gears constantly to be in 6th immediately.
For the rare owners of this V-Strom 250, personally I recommend this modification.

Just for information, since I changed my transmission, for the same use, I use 2.9l for 100 kms instead of 3.2l ;-)

    Hi Andy!

    I own the 250 V-Strom too.

Suzuki DL250 V-Strom (2018-2021) uses exactly same Inazuma-engine (with a lil camshaft mod)

DL V-Strom250 uses exactly same gearbox too. And same tire dimensions as Inazuma do.

Chain-gearing stock is 14-47, that makes the bike very revy.

And its the VERY BEST spending of 15,- you can do: getting the Bike a 15t front sprocket! It does 6% lower gearing ratio and it also gets revs 6% lower especially in 6th gear.

And it heals the 10% speedo overengagement to only 4%, thats much better.

If  my country have not got noticeable mountains and i have not got a noticeable belly of age  :001: , i would try a 16t front sprocket next time at chain changing time.

    Best regards!
