I'm getting about 80 - 85 Mpg depending on speed mostly... 85MPG cruising on empty A-Roads with no-one around, 80-83 Mpg on the motorway. If I take the bike above 8K rpm it starts drinking. Did a ride back from scotland a couple of years ago at avg 9k RPM and consumption dropped to the early 70s MPG. For the extra few MPH it's not worth it for me!

Hi,

Just complete 2 runs @ max 100km/h (7500rpm)..... makes a change.

First run 22.9km/l (range about 240km) filled a tad early since I had a rather long stretch to cover.
Second run 24.2km/l (range up to 260km) and had some room to spare, probably could of completed 300km with ease (flashing tank, but not bar).

That puts me at ease, knowing that it was my higher top speed and rpm “driving” my mpg down...

All's I know is that the manual says
40 G rpm gives the best mileage.
Compared to my car, I get a very long distance before I have to refill. And super fun rides through the countryside and town. The only thing better is my kayak, which consumes zero petrol.

Well I finally have an average for my bike which is 90.23 MPG which is 19.848 LPL.  I never run the tank to empty so I can't comment on that. The local Motorway has road works on it and there is a very tight speed restriction of 50 MPH.  It goes on for miles so whilst I use the Motorway, there is no great speed involved.
Comment has been made on fuel saving and the correct answer is to only go as far as the torque band in every gear which is 6,500rpm.  That's good enough for 55 MPH.

Over about 6,000 miles I have recorded every fill up (sad I know). Averaging low seventies mpg and a tank range of about 210 miles. I've never got anywhere close to 80+ mpg unfortunately.

Sticking to the torque band is just the first part of getting great MPG.  Smooth riding and anticipation is needed.  Anticipating traffic lights so that you are still moving when they change to green and using engine braking instead of the brakes etc.  Not accelerating too hard.  Its a skill you can learn on advanced driver courses.

I have just been on a 900-mile tour with a motorcycle club and the next small bike was a 700 Yamaha Tracer, otherwise, they were generally 1250cc BMW's and the like. So as you can imagine I had to use a lot of revs sometimes to keep up with them, but I am glad to say they even though they did not hang about I managed to do so pretty effortlessly.
While on tour I recorded three MPG results and these were.
81.4 mpg, 86.2mpg and 91.3mpg.
I think considering how hard the bike was used these were incredible.
I am sure less spirited riding will produce even better results. :001:
Cheers,
Gordon
